Operation Communitas exists to empower the people of New Orleans and their communities to renovate the devestation caused by Hurricane Katrina.

To accomplish this, we will work hand in hand with New Orleans community leaders, faith based leaders and the people within the communities themselves to empower them to become self reliant.

We will provide all necessary scheduling, training, work project details, work tools, housing and meal arrangements, and follow up after a project is completed through teams sent from churches in the Detroit Metropolitan area.

Our goal is to be a conduit between local churches in the Detroit area and local churches in New Orleans, forging new relationships between those who wish to help, and those who are genuinely in need and are willing to participate in the renovation of their community. By uniting volunteers with property owners committed to returning to their neighborhoods, we hope to restore lives, families and a strong sense community back to New Orleans.

We are committed to being part of this long term ongoing process, one home at a time.
